Guangzhi, Shungyue, and Xiangqi each has a secret in their hearts that they don’t want to reveal to others.  The three actors present their inner struggle through each of their unique acting styles.  In particular, Wang Yao-Xing who plays Guangzhi, presents the character’s calming power to all those confused chamber maids in the palace through her rich and echoing voice singing as a qingyi (demure female roles) of the Cheng school.  Such rich voice can clearly show Guangzhi’s loneliness and lamentation for her fate of not having been favored by the emperor and losing her beloved Shungyue as the latter is married off.
