Wang Xi-Feng is a famous character from Dream of the Red Chamber.  Her name has become synonymous with women who are shrewd, pungent, jealous, but capable and smart.  Such conflicting characteristics are a concrete basis for Chen Xi-Ting in her construction of the character, Wang Xi-Feng.  Her changeable moods reflect personality conflicts.  When she finds out that her husband, Jia Lian, has a pregnant mistress, Yiu Er-Jie, she cannot help but feel angry, shameful, jealous, and resentful.  But while the servants and maids worry about what form of revenge she will take, Wang Xi-Feng suddenly changes her mind and takes Yiu Er-Jie to live with her in the same mansion.  Not knowing better, the servants and maids think that she is kind for a change, and may begin to treat others with mercy as well.   However, this is a mere show for Wang Xi-Feng, for she, after going through all kinds of conflicting feelings in her heart, puts on the show so that she can “turn the world around to show her jealousy”.  Chen Xi-ting takes this seemingly little incident of Wang Xi-Feng wreaking havoc because of her jealousy to reflect the dispute between the Rung Mansion and the Ning Mansion.  Taking advantage of the excuse that the extra-marital affair was the result of the urging of Jia Zhen, his wife, and his son who are members of the Ning Mansion, Wang Xi-Feng, who dominates the Rung Mansion with her vigorous force, gets to display her power in the Ning Mansion and thus strengthens the unbalanced situation among the relatives of the Rung Mansion and the Ning Mansion.
